Lacazette was close to signing for Atletico in 2017 but the deal was not made because of the penalty imposed on the "Rojiblancos" by the World Federation of Football (FIFA) in the sense of any deals for two seasons.
"Everything was agreed, but FIFA's decision to ban him," commented Lyon president Lacazette. "The deal was worth 65 million euros and eventually he moved to Arsenal and his contract ends in 2022.
Lacazette's name was once again reverberated in the Atletico's corridors after Grizmann's last decision, and the Spanish club sought to find a strong substitute to strengthen their ranks.
The French newspaper confirmed that the management of "Rojiblankos" made preliminary contact with the family of the player to know the issue of his arrival at the stadium «Wanda Mediterraneo».
The 2016-2017 season was the best season for Lazazet with 37 goals in 43 matches, averaging 0.85 per game, but that value seems to have fallen since his departure to the Premier League. Last year he scored 17 goals, 0.44.
