Napoli appoint Gattuso as boss less than 24 hours after sacking Ancelotti

The Italian club Napoli has announced the appointment of Gennaro Gattuso, the new coach of the team who succeeded his counterpart Carlo Ancelotti, who was sacked Tuesday evening.

The southern club in Italy posted a tweet welcoming the new coach, Gattuso, saying, "Welcome, Gattuso."

 



Gattuso joined his former coach, Ancelotti, after he trained under his supervision in the 2003 and 2007 Champions League title and became close friends.

Gattuso said in statements highlighted by the club's official account: "Ancelotti is like a father to me, he is always close to me and supports me, he won a lot, and I still have a lot to prove."

He added: "The team is aware of the difficult situation and wants to do well. I've been encouraged.

"I fear nothing. I know I'm going to be working with experienced people. I hope to get results."
