Porto vs Chelsea Prediction & Match Preview

Porto

Chelsea

07 April 2021 20:00 UK/ 21:00 CET Champions League Allianz Arena

Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan will host Wednesday’s Champions League clash between Porto and Chelsea.

The Dragons did well to shock Juventus in the last 16, but they will have a mountain to climb in the double-header against the Blues, who have been producing excellent displays under Thomas Tuchel.

Since Both Taremi and Sergio Oliveira are banned for the match, we are not tempted to put our money on the Portuguese outfit.

Experienced defender is a major doubt and he will be assessed ahead of the kick-off.

Chelsea aim to make amends for a shocking 5-2 loss to WBA, and seeing that Thomas Tuchel should have a full squad to choose from, we believe that there is a big value in betting on the Premier League side.

In the previous meeting between the two sides (2015) in the elite competition the Blues defeated the Dragons 2-0.

Porto vs Chelsea Head-to-head

The visitor has recorded four of the last five overall wins.
Their previous encounter gave a 2-0 home win for the Blues.
Both teams have scored in five of their last eight fixtures.
The host has only two wins from their overall eight meetings.
None of their recent five matches have ended in a draw.
The Dragons have lost only one of their four clashes at home.

Team News:

Porto's star man Oliveira, who boasts 19 goals in all competitions this season, will miss the first leg due to an accumulation of yellow cards, so Marko Grujic could come back into the team to provide some defensive stability.

Mehdi Taremi is also suspended after his sending-off in Turin, so Luis Diaz could move into a central role, but Martinez will hope to come into Conceicao's thinking after his crucial goal against Santa Clara.

Pepe returned to the starting lineup against Santa Clara and will marshal the defence once more, while Malang Sarr is able to feature against his parent club, but he is unlikely to be considered for a start.

Chelsea manager Tuchel has already conceded that N'Golo Kante's hamstring problem will keep him out of this game, so Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic are set to pair up once more.

Christian Pulisic is also expected to miss out after he entered the treatment room at half time during the defeat to West Brom, and it remains to be seen if Antonio Rudiger will be involved following reports of a bust-up with Kepa during a training session.

Silva's red card at the weekend means nothing for this game, but Andreas Christensen will hope to earn a recall to the side, especially if Rudiger is not selected to travel.

Porto possible starting lineup:
Marchesin; Manafa, Pepe, Mbemba, Sanusi; Corona, Grujic, Uribe, Otavio; Marega, Martinez

Chelsea possible starting lineup:
Mendy; Azpilicueta, Zouma, Christensen; Hudson-Odoi, Jorginho, Kovacic, Chilwell; Ziyech, Mount; Giroud
